Pupkewitz Motors has taken a pioneering step in the realm of corporate social responsibility by launching a remarkable initiative aimed at fostering female development through the sport of cricket in Namibia. This endeavour, in collaboration with Craig Williams, is designed to offer women and girls unique opportunities to nurture their cricketing talents and achieve their dreams.
Pupkewitz Motors' commitment to female development in Namibia is manifested through the partnership of the Pupkewitz Motors Sports Center previously known as the JC Sports Academy, where women and girls can train for free on Fridays from 16:00 to 18:00. This initiative represents a significant stride in promoting women's cricket in the country, particularly among those hailing from previously disadvantaged backgrounds who often lack access to facilities, equipment, and expert coaching.
The decision to focus on female development in Namibia stems from the growing global prominence of women's cricket. Pupkewitz Motors recognizes the potential in this segment and the necessity to support the development of women's cricket in Namibia. The partnership with the Women's National Coach, Francois van der Merwe, and the passion of their coaches to nurture cricket at the grassroots level have been instrumental in driving this initiative.
The primary objective is to provide women and girls with the opportunity to train under the guidance of skilled coaches in a safe environment. Pupkewitz Motors aspires to witness these girls progress through the facility and eventually represent Namibia at national and international levels.
The local community in Namibia has responded positively to this initiative. Currently, approximately 15 to 20 girls are part of the program, and there is a growing interest from parents and schools. The aim is to expand participation and involve up to 30 girls in the near future.
While it is still early days for the initiative, the sheer number of girls participating is a testament to the enthusiasm and eagerness within the community to engage in cricket. This initiative has already provided an opportunity for these young women to experience coaching and training at a high-performance level.
